Why Choose MonitorGO®? Benefits at a Glance
The MonitorGO® device offers a range of benefits that have never been seen before on a single personal alarm device. What really makes this solution different is the way it helps people to lead a less restricted life, giving them more independence, reassurance and dignity.
MonitorGO® helps you to retain your independence because it gives you access to help around the clock without the need for somebody to be with you. This ‘safety net’ is with you wherever you are, in the home or outside it, so there’s no need to be confined to the house.
Knowing that help is available whenever you need it, even if you are unable to manually activate the alarm yourself in the event of a fall or becoming unconscious, offers invaluable peace of mind to you and to your loved ones. The location finding
means that you can readily be found: equally as useful if you have a fall in the garden or are away from the home and being waterproof, you can even take it into the bath or shower with you.
As we get older it’s important for us to retain our dignity. Accepting that we need additional help isn’t always easy and many find the idea of wearing a pendant alarm or wristband difficult to deal with. MonitorGO®
does not look like any of the personal alarms for the elderly that you’ve seen before as the hardware we’ve used is a standard smart phone. As 94% of adults in the UK carry a mobile phone there is no such stigma or resistance attached to it making it psychologically much easier to accept and use.
Many older people can feel embarrassed by their increasing reliance on their families or even that they are becoming a burden. MonitorGO® can help to reduce this reliance and support independence.
is an emergency device but its use can also reduce risk and therefore provide a safety element. It can be used anywhere within range of a mobile signal so you can summon help wherever you are. If you were out of range of a standard personal alarm you may attempt to move, putting yourself at risk of making the situation worse. In the event of a fall, getting medical assistance quickly can make a big difference in reducing the severity of the injury. MonitorGO®
allows for this by enabling a fast response even if you are unable to activate the alarm yourself. No other personal alarm on the UK market offers unconsciousness alert
which triggers after 25 minutes of complete inactivity (this period can be changed if required). In the event of a stroke or heart attack this could make all the difference.
device is very affordable at £199 for the device plus a monthly subscription of £30 for network provision and access to the 24/7 help line (see here for pricing
). This is a comparable cost to both a standard personal alarm device and a mobile phone contract and MonitorGO®
combines both functions in one device. The many additional features of MonitorGO®
over and above those of a standard personal alarm device make it much better value for money.
Ease of Use
Personalised to You
When you order your MonitorGO®
you will be asked to provide a range of details that allow us to personalise your device and provide the assistance that you need in the event of the alarm being activated. We’ll ask for your name, how you like to be addressed, where you live, any medical conditions you have and who your chosen contacts are (you can store up to 30 with 3 identified as emergency contacts). Then, when you receive your device it will be pre-installed with all this information. It means that all your contacts will be stored and, if you need to connect to the Medvivo 24/7 Help Line, they will have all your details – even if you are unable to communicate with them directly. It will also provide us with information to populate the client area of the website that you or your carer can log into to access GPS information, battery status or to change details. We comply fully with data protection regulations and these personal details will never be shared outside this provision of service.
MonitorGO® is not a standard safety device; the device adapts to how you use it. We discovered through initial field trials that a standard level of sensitivity isn’t appropriate for everyone. Factors such as height, weight, level of activity and where you wear it all impact upon performance of the fall detection. We have therefore built into the system a ‘learning process’ for the device. The first 2-3 weeks of using MonitorGO® will be a period of adjustment whereby the device learns from each false alarm registered. The sensitivity is set high initially and reduced each time a false alarm is recorded until the sensitivity level is just right for you. What you end up with is a device that is sensitive enough to detect genuine falls but not so sensitive it is likely to be triggered accidentally.
As well as providing a range of features
that help you to live independently, don’t forget that MonitorGO®
is still a mobile phone. You can therefore still use it to make and receive calls making it even better value for money and very practical. We include UNLIMITED CALLS TO UK LANDLINES
(starting 01, 02 or 03) and 250 minutes to UK mobiles so no need to worry about the cost of calls.
The MonitorGO® device offers significantly greater benefits than any other personal alarm device available for older people. See Dr Guy Dewsbury’s independent review of telecare devices.
